Reading 

Please read with your child at least 5 times per week and record the title, progress, and additional comments in their green reading record book. 

Your child's books will be changed every Friday. The Year 1 team will discuss with your child which books they would like to read and choices will be be made accordingly. 

Please record any books from home you have read, these can be non-fiction, comics, bedtime stories.

Encourage your child to read at any opportunity - road signs, instruction booklets, recipes, menus, the back of the cereal box! All this practice will help them develop confidence and motivate them to read.

The expectation in Year 1 is for your child to read 5x weekly.  Thank you.

Oxford Owl

Oxford Owl is a website that offers online books with comprehension activities for children. Your child will have 2 e-books assigned to them every Friday in addition to their physical books they bring home. Their log in details can be found inside their reading record book.

Please remember to record your child's e-book reads in their reading record book.
