At Manor Field Infant School, we are keen to encourage a desire for discovery and questioning. Through Geography we work to develop children's awareness of the world around them. We showcase different cultures, environments, people and landscapes and encourage children to investigate and ask questions about what they see.
In Year One and Two pupils will investigate their local area and compare this to a contrasting area. They will find out about these environments and about the people in them. They will also name and locate the world’s 7 continents and 5 oceans and name, locate and identify characteristics of the 4 countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas.
Geography Spring 1 Year 2
'Happily Ever After'
In geography this half term the children have been looking at a range of maps and learning about the different features such as symbols, a key, compass etc. Using the knowledge they had learnt they created their own fairytale forest map and had to write a set of instructions using directional language to direct a friend around their map. The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their maps!
Geography Autumn 1
In year 1 during our 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' project the children learnt about maps and created their own map to show the Bears journey in the story.
Year 2 Autumn
In Year 2 during our 'Welcome Aboard' project the children learnt about the journey the Titanic was taking on its maiden voyage from Southampton. On a map the children showed the journey the Titanic took and learnt the location and the names of the different countries in the United Kingdom. The children were able to locate and name them on a map.
