The book we are focussing on this week is "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt.
You can listen to the story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hrd-Wdxbg-Q
And read some extracts from the story here: https://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/extract/10795/The-Day-the-Crayons-Quit-by-Drew-Daywalt.html
Monday - Exploring the Characters
Listen to the whole story together. Choose your two favourite crayons. What are they talking about in their letters? Are they happy or are they feeling a bit cross? Why?
Upload a video with a brief summary about each crayon's complaints and comments to Class Dojo.
Tuesday - Colour Dictionary
We would like you to create a colour dictionary. Find objects in your home and sort them into the colour categories above. Draw an object from each colour category and label your drawing using the colour names from the picture. There is an example below. Please upload a photo of your work onto Class Dojo.
Wednesday - Suffixes
We would you to recap your knowledge of 'er' and 'est' suffixes. Suffixes are a group of letters added to the end of a word to change the meaning. Look around at the objects in your home/garden and discuss the different adjectives (words that describe something) that end in 'er' and 'est'; e.g. smoother, brightest, faster, slowest, etc. to describe those objects.
Choose three of your favourite crayons from the story and write a sentence about each of them using an adjective with an 'er' or 'est' suffix. There is an example below. Upload a picture of your work onto Class Dojo.
Thursday - Questions and Commands
We would like you to explore different sentence types - questions and commands. Questions are sentences that ask something and have a question mark at the end. Commands are usually short and urgent and tell somebody what to do, e.g. "Help me!" "Go over there!" etc.
You can either choose three crayons from the story or three objects in your home/garden. What do you think they would say if they could talk? Pretend to be the crayon or object and write a question and a command for each object. Don't forget to draw a picture too! There is an example below. Upload a photo of your work onto Class Dojo.
Friday - Speech Marks
Speech marks (" ") are used in writing when someone is talking, e.g. Miss Thompson said, "I have got pasta for my lunch today." Miss Peckett said, "I hope today is going to be sunny!"
We would like you to find four objects in your house or garden. Draw each object and write what each object would say in a speech bubble if they could talk. Don't forget to add the speech marks! There is an example below. Upload a photo of your work onto Class Dojo.
