The book we are looking at this week is called "The Silent Red Book" by Maia Walczak. It is a story without words. The link for the story is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4zE00VXK6c
Monday - Making Predictions
Look at the opening screenshot (shown above). Do not watch the rest of the story just yet! We would like you to upload a video of yourself onto Class Dojo answering these questions about the image:
- Who do you think this book is about?
- What might be different about this book to others?
- Why do you think that?
- What do you think the relationship is between the two characters? For example, are they friends? How do you know?
Now watch the rest of the story, but stop at various points throughout to predict (guess) what you think might happen next. You do not need to upload a video for this.
Tuesday - The Fox's Feelings
Watch the video up to 45 seconds. Talk about what is happening in the picture and how the fox might be feeling. Look at the nine words below and choose three that you think best describe the fox's feelings. Once you have chosen three words, write a sentence for each one. See if you can challenge yourself by using 'because' to explain why. For example: The fox is hungry because it is searching the bins. Upload a photo of your work onto Class Dojo.
Wednesday - Exploring Fox's Feelings
Watch the video up to 1:37. How is the fox feeling now? How has the fox's feelings changed throughout the story?
Write vocabulary (words) that describe how the fox is feeling at different points in the story. You can either copy each picture shown above and write the words in a thought bubble or write the number of the relevant picture with the vocabulary next to it. There is an example below. Upload a photo of your work onto Class Dojo.
Thursday - Writing Sentences
Go back to your work from yesterday and remind yourself of the words you wrote to describe the fox's feelings across the story. Choose one word from each picture and write a sentence to show how the fox is feeling at different points. For an extra challenge, see if you can use conjunctions (words used to join two parts of a sentence e.g. but, and, so, because, or). Upload a photo of your work onto Class Dojo.
Friday - Letter Writing
Re-watch the story and discuss the key events that happen. Write a letter from the fox to the girl thanking her for looking after him and retelling all the amazing things they saw together. You can create a name for the girl and the fox if you like! There is an example below. Upload a photo of your work onto Class Dojo.
