Weekly Learning 11th May

Daily Maths

For Maths, we would like you to continue with the Maths Home Learning Lessons and Activities on the White Rose Learning Hub. This week start at 'Summer Week 2' (Week beginning 27th April), and, as before, complete one lesson and activity per day, recording your learning in your red learning journals. The link for the learning is below:

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

In addition to this, and your other Daily Learning, we have some other challenges to keep you busy:

Monday / Tuesday/ Wednesday

Your writing task this week is to write a set of instructions for either the model castle you made, your lego castle model, the crown you made or any cooking you made have done. This is slightly more complicated than prior learning. You will need to watch and respond to 3 pieces of media from the Oak National Academy/us – Do not try and do all this in one go (Try lesson 1 Monday, 2 on Tuesday and 3 on Wednesday). Do things in the following order:

  1. Features of instructional writing - Follow this lesson from 3mins 14 seconds to the end (it has places to pause):  https://www.thenational.academy/year-2/english/to-identify-the-key-features-of-instructions-year-2-wk1-3#slide-2-  it might be an idea to note down the key features for the subsequent lesson.
  2. To identify and use adverbs– Follow this lesson from 3.17 seconds to the end: https://www.thenational.academy/year-2/english/to-identify-and-use-adverbs-year-2-wk1-4#slide-2   - to build upon your learning of suffixes from the previous week can you write some additional sentences with adverbs in?
  3. Writing a set of instructions. Decide what instructions you would like to write. Discuss with an adult the different equipment you needed and your instructions in order.

Watch the video from 7:00 minutes to help you with writing your set of instructions. Use the model to help you with the layout of your instructions and the different features you need to include (heading, sub-heading, time openers, and adverbs).

We would advise trying not to do this all in one go, as your child will in likelihood become tired and unfocused.

Wednesday

Today we would like you to read a chapter from your favourite storybook. We would love you to video record yourselves reading and put these onto Classdojo as we have missed listening to hearing you read.

 Thursday

Activity 1:

We would love you to go out for a walk and enjoy the beautiful weather. During your walk, could you pick up something that is related to nature? This could be a leaf or a flower. Using the object you have picked can you complete an observational drawing of it using pencils, crayons or paints? You can always pick an object from your garden to draw if you would prefer?

Activity 2:

Please complete the comprehension activity uploaded to Class Story. If you are a Reading Band 2,3,4,5,6 or 7, read and answer the questions for A New Pet. If you are a Reading Band 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12, read and answer the questions for Horrid Henry. Write the answers in full sentences into your red journal then take a photo and upload it.

Friday:

Activity 1

As an on-going, weekly challenge, we would like you to continue with your learning of Spanish. Hopefully you have been learning to count from 1-10 and learning the alphabet. To challenge yourself further we would like you to introduce yourself and say how old you are in Spanish. Both very important skills.

Use the links from the Oak National Academy:

https://www.thenational.academy/year-2/foundation/saying-your-age-in-spanish-year-2-wk3-2

Record a video of yourself telling us how old you are in spanish. ¡Buena suerte!

Activity 2

For geography we would like to try the activities and learning on BBC Bitesize. This week we would like you to learn about the countries and capital cities of the UK. Please see below for the link.

Once you have completed the learning and activities can you make your own map of the UK, labelling the different countries and the capital cities?
