Pupil Voice and School Council

Our Little Stars

After the votes were cast and counted the Little Stars were announced during assembly and presented with their certificates.  We had our first Little Star meeting where we introduced ourselves, shared our ideas and got our special badges.

Election time!

Wednesday 28th October.  It's that time of year again and there was lots of excitement around the school as children voted for the School Council members, or 'Little Stars' as we call them.  Each child voted for one boy and one girl to represent them from their class.  We borrowed the official ballot boxes and stands from the Council and tried our best to keep our votes secret!

Our Class Charters
At the beginning of the school year we agree our class charters based on our rights and responsibilities and how we would like a respectful classroom to run.

2015 - 2016

The Queen's 90th Birthday Celebrations
The Little Stars asked their classes if they would like to celebrate the Queen's 90th Birthday and what activities they would like to do.  The children made their suggestions and voted to decorate biscuits, make crowns and flags and to celebrate together with a tea party! What fun!
Thank you to our lovely PTA for the delicious cakes!

Pumeza Mandela Visit

Niece of Nelson Mandela, Pumeza Mandela, came to visit the junior school on 12th April and we were very privileged to be invited.

Pumeza spoke to us about the Nelson Mandela Museum in South Africa and we discussed children's rights and responsibilities across the world.

Democracy in Action!

We are a Rights Respecting school and the Little Stars looked at the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child Article 31 'the right to play and rest.'  The Little Stars wanted to improve playtimes so they asked their peers for their ideas.  Each class came up with a list of fabulous ideas and voted for their favourites.  The children used their voice to choose playground equipment which has made a real difference to their lunchtimes.  That's democracy in action!

Our Elections!
7th October 2015 was a very important day at Manor Field Infant School.  This was the day that we exercised our right to democracy and voted for our very own School Counsellors, or as we call them, Little Stars.  Each year every class votes for two Little Stars to represent them within the school.

Meetings

The Little Stars meet at least twice every term to talk about ways to improve our school and to share the views of the children in their classes.  We meet at lunchtimes and have a 'working lunch' - very grown up!

Playground Pals

As part of respecting the right to play and rest we have introduced Playground Pals.  Playground Pals support children who might be feeling like they need a friend or someone play with or talk to.  Here is some resting in action on the Friendship bench!

Our Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes are an opportunity for children to share their amazing learning with their friends and parents.  Each class has a learning outcome to celebrate each topic.  Here Year 1 are sharing their 'Sink or Swim' topic all about the Titanic.
